Going from Winter to Spring Skincare

Now, can you believe there is only another week until spring is finally here in Australia. This year has flied by so fast, I feel like I was only planning my wedding in January weeks ago. And we have already passed our 6 month anniversary! With winter ending and spring approaching, this means our skin and bodies are adapting to the changes of weather. So, with the changing of weather, means a transition of skincare routine, and I have listed below the things we need to look out for.

Don’t forget SPF!

No matter what the day, we should all be protecting our skin from damaging UV rays. UV rays can damage our skin in multiple ways and I’ll break it down for you.
– UVB rays are the ones that cause sunburn.
– Whereas UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and lead to long-term effects such as wrinkling, premature ageing and other skin damage. Not to mention skin cancer possibilities as well.

Applying sunscreen daily reduces the risk of getting skin cancer by a lot. Sunscreen acts as a barrier against these harmful rays, either scattering, absorbing or reflecting them. Sunscreen is good for your entire body, head to toe, but especially the face because it is the most susceptible to premature ageing and wrinkles.

Ever since I can remember my mum instilled in me to wear sunscreen on a daily basis and I am ever so glad she did. Not only has it helped reducing my freckles, which at first was a self-conscious issue for myself, but it has also protected my skin from any early ageing signs. Here are my top sunscreens that I have been loving at the moment! Sun Bum SPF 50+ Lotion which not only smells divine but great for protecting yourself. Perfect for the body because of the great SPF factor and very easy to soak in without the oily feeling. Again, another 50+ sunscreen that I love is the Sunsense Sensitive Invisible sunscreen.

Don’t over exfoliate!

Now, throughout the colder months our skin was more dry and it needed some TLC in the exfoliating department. And as our skin transitions into the warmer months it’ll be more moisturized but we still can’t forget to get rid of any dead skin cells. I have been loving a chemical exfoliant at the moment which works without scrubbing or breaking open any acne on the face, and even though it sounds like chemical exfoliants could be more full-on and harsh for the skin, they actually can be quite the opposite.

Exfoliating the face should be done about 2 times a week depending on the person, which not only gets rid of dead and dull skin cells but also speeds up cell turnover. Exfoliating the skin also unclogs any pores and also allows following products to penetrate deeper into the skin, enhancing their performance. Which we all want if we are paying for expensive serums for our skin, obviously. Down below are my top exfoliants.

I love a good chemical exfoliant because it doesn’t irritate any acne, sensitive skin or eczema on the skin but works from enzymes breaking down the ‘glue’ that cements dead skin cells together. I love using this The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA. And for a physical exfoliant which is gentle and soothing on the skin I love Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant which is made of colloidal oatmeal which is great for redness, eczema and sensitive skin.

Switch up your Rich Moisturizer to Something Lighter

There’s a big difference between summer weather and winter weather and so should our skincare throughout the season. Throughout the winter our skin would have needed something richer and thicker to combat the cold, and as we approach spring and summer our moisturizer should become thinner and allow the skin to breathe more.

For my body, I have been loving The Body Shop Mango Body Yogurt. It is a thin consistency, soaks into the skin effortlessly and smells damn good amazing! I haven’t yet tried any other fragrances because by far mango will probably always be my favourite. Do yourself a favour and get some of this on your body! I know you’ll thank me.

For my face, I love Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion, and with their introduced Active Cartridge Concentrates, everyone can cater it to suit their ownskin needs. They have one for fine lines and wrinkles, one for fatigued skin, one for pores and uneven texture, one for uneven skin and one for irritation. This makes this truly amazing product even better than ever.

So feel free to try out these products and tell me your thoughts! I know you’ll love them! And message me below your favourites for the spring time and why you love them! I can’t wait to hear from all of you!

{DISCLAIMER: I am not a dermatologist or esthetician and I am simply sharing which products I use and work well with my skin. This post is not sponsored. I have a Diploma in Beauty Therapy and have used some of these products throughout my training, however I am still learning everyday better and more effective and healthy products for the skin as I go along. Every ones skin is different and reacts differently to products hence why seeing a dermatologist or esthetician is the best option to finding the right products for your skin.}
